This Month's Featured Question...

I play 3 times a week at my local club (I'm 50+) can you recommend a fitness regime so that I can enjoy my games a bit more. These youngsters are a bit too fast on the court.

Colette - Dublin, Ireland

Nick's Answer:

Dear Colette,

Thanks for writing in, I am glad to hear that you are playing and enjoying yourself!

To lift your game to the next level and be able to compete against those youngsters will not be an easy task. The most important suggestion I have for you is to head to the gym and work on areas where you are physically weak. Make sure that you are working out all parts of the body and not just one muscle group. This will help you build strength, endurance, and stamina which will in turn help you on the court.

Also, exercising 3-5 times a week for 20-30 minutes will aid you against those younger players. Simple exercises such as walking your dog, gardening, running in place, swimming, cycling, or other household chores will be of a great benefit to you. I work out for an hour each morning either in the gym or in the pool, and am always riding around on my bike!

When you are on the court the only way to play against a bigger and stronger opponent is to get your racquet back sooner and move to the ball faster. Exercising and working out in the gym will help you reach your goal!

Keep playing, and thanks for writing in to nickbollettieri.com!
